I received an email about the four signs of stroke. It is really wise to know this kind of things because you never know when it will strike. It is better to be ready than sorry. According to studies, stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States. This is what the email was about:
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics). She said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Jan e passed away.)
She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough...
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Use FAST to remember the warning signs:
F—FACE: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
A—ARMS: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S—SPEECH: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange?
T—TIME: If you observe any of these signs, call for medical immediately.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

A Hopeful Nation
I’m sure everyone has heard about the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of our Pres. Noynoy Aquino last July 26. Before I was not really into politics. I mean I don’t wait for the SONA. I’m even annoyed when they stop regular programming just to cover events like SONA. But now, I only open our television just to watch the news! Unlike before where I got depressed watching the news because it’s the same old story every day. It’s like this time there’s something to look forward to. I want to be updated with what’s happening to our country. I want to hear what the President’s cabinet members have to say with regards to some issues. And when I heard the solutions to these issues, I become “hopeful.” I don’t know but somehow I believe that it can be done. Not like the previous administration where I stop believing. All they do is make promises.
I like that P-NOY speech is in Filipino. You use English when you’re at work, or talking to a foreigner, or trying to impress someone. But when you’re talking to your fellow Pinoy, isn’t it more heartfelt to use your own language? More convenient too I must add. He mentions some of the problems our country is facing. Some congressmen say it is “bitin” and a lot of issues were not tackled. But how long do you want the SONA to take? Forever? LOL. Besides, P-NOY has 6 years to prove himself. Let’s solve one problem at a time.
It really makes a difference when you have trust to the authority you have. I pray that this trust won’t be put to waste yet again.

The inauguration of President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III last June 30, 2010 at Quirino Grandstand became more alive because of the songs that were performed by some of the biggest names in the music industry. They give inspirations through their songs. Big artists like Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Charice Pempengco and APO Hiking Society were among the few who showcase their talents. But one song that caught my attention is Noel Cabangon's "Tungo sa Pagbabago, Para sa Pagbabago." It's such a powerful song and the message is meaningful. I truly felt the sincerity of the songs so I want to share it to those who have not the privelege of hearing it yet.
Tungo sa Pagbabago, Para sa Pagbabago!
Noel Cabangon
(Repeat Chorus)

Philippine's 15th President
Today marks a momentous event for all Filipinos all over the world. It is the inauguration of the 15th president of our country. The oath taking took place at Quirino Grandstand at exactly 12:00 pm. I watched the whole event at the comfort of our home but still I had goose bumps when the ceremony is finally over. I admit I didn’t vote for Noynoy Aquino but majority of the Filipinos has decided and it is time to finally move on and unite for the recovery of our nation. President Noynoy speech focus mostly on fighting corruption and the reformation of government as the one who will give comfort to the Filipinos and not the other way around. I like the part where he says “Kayo ang boss ko. Kaya’t hindi maaring hindi ako makinig sa mga utos ninyo.” What he emphasize is quite true because oftentimes MOST government officials were being abusive of their power. It is humbling to hear that Pres. Aquino calls the Filipinos ”boss.” His speech is inspiring and it lasted for more or less 20 minutes. I pray his vision for our country would be a reality. But of course we have to do our part too! Sama sama, tulong tulong sa pagbabago. Mahirap, mayaman, let us all do our part for our beloved Philippines!

Election 2010
I’ve just finished writing my own list of candidates that I will vote on Election Day. At first I had difficulty deciding who to vote for the most coveted place in our government – the presidency. I know it’s just one vote. But that’s the least we can do for our country. One vote for the right candidate is one vote for Philippines’ growth. It’s only 7 days before the election and we should have thoroughly checked and examined all the candidates by now. I make it a point to watch and read information about them. We’ve been fooled before by corrupt officials that I hope we learned our lesson and not make that same mistake again.
Every Filipinos should make an effort to know and vote for the right candidate in all the government position. Some people are discouraged to vote because they don’t believe their vote will make a change. Some are also pessimistic about the automated way of voting and counting the votes. This is the first time we are going to have a full automated election so we still don’t know what to expect. I pray it would be a clean, peaceful and meaningful one. I like the ad of a TV station which says “May Magagawa Tayo.” I do believe in that! This is our chance to help improve the situation of our country. So on May 10, 2010, DON’T forget to vote! :)

Earth Hour
As we’re taking part on this momentous and significant event, I notice some of our neighbours not being aware of what it is all about. They asked us why there is no electricity in our house. Before I could even answer, my nephew Gian quickly and intelligently answer “Earth hour po kasi!” He even encourages them to take their lights off as well. Good thing some of them really did what Gian told them. Well for some they just didn’t care. But no matter if Earth Hour becomes successful or not, we’re glad we participate in this kind of event because it doesn’t hurt to turn your lights off for a few hours in exchange of healing our mother earth. :)
