Earth Hour

Together with the rest of the world, we joined in observing Earth Hour by switching our lights off from 8:32pm to 9:32pm last night. In our own simple way we want to contribute in helping save energy and to take a symbolic stand against climate change. Enough electricity is wasted every year leading to abusing the natural resources our planet. We have to consider that everything would vanish when improperly utilize. Last year’s Earth Hour, an estimated 611MWh of electricity was saved – equivalent to a temporary shutdown of a dozen coal-fired power-plants in just one hour of taking off our lights. Imagine how much energy we can save if we properly use electricity for our everyday life!

As we’re taking part on this momentous and significant event, I notice some of our neighbours not being aware of what it is all about. They asked us why there is no electricity in our house. Before I could even answer, my nephew Gian quickly and intelligently answer “Earth hour po kasi!” He even encourages them to take their lights off as well. Good thing some of them really did what Gian told them. Well for some they just didn’t care. But no matter if Earth Hour becomes successful or not, we’re glad we participate in this kind of event because it doesn’t hurt to turn your lights off for a few hours in exchange of healing our mother earth. :)
