You only have 42 days to vote for the new Seven Wonders of the World. It would be reveal on November 11, 2011 who among the 28 finalist will be included in the Top 7. I know it's hard to choose only 7 because our planet is bursting with amazing and breath taking places. I'm happy and proud too that one entry is from my home country, Philippines!

The sole entry of the Philippines - Puerto Princesa Underground River

Unfortunately for me, I've never been here but I  know one day I'll be able to visit this along many other beautiful places in my country. Don't pass this chance to vote. You can vote via text or by website. Here's the official link to their site: http://www.new7wonders.com/vote-2?lang=en

Typhoon Pedring

September 27, 2011 I woke up with the sound of strong wind and our roof's banging sound. Oh no! Another typhoon to hit the Philippines! I was scared of the wrath of Typhoon Pedring and I was worried that our roof might give up. As I check my Facebook I am not the only one who feels that way. I wanted my mom, who still manage to go to work, to come home. I watched the news to get updated and the situation are worst in some part of Metro Manila. Then at around 12:00 pm, one of our neighbor shout "Patayin nyo ang fuse nyo, nasusunog ang Romers!" Romer's Trading is a fabrics store just across the street and at that moment it is burning. We were terrified! Good thing, fire trucks from different municipality started arriving and after four hours of putting off the fire, it was declared stabilized and so everyone breathe a sigh of relief.

So from then on, electricity is cut off, with no news to listen to. I want to be prepared next time so I will buy a mini radio that runs in battery in case power electricity is down again. I am also glad that I thought of charging our flashlight and my cellphone before electricity is cut off. We also have reserved mineral water so it is not a problem. Now that another typhoon is looming in the view, I hope that everyone would be more ready and equipped. Click here for some tips we should remember in times of typhoon.

And here's the official websites of PAG-ASA  and PAG-ASA twitter for more weather reports.

The best defense in this kind of calamity is be prepared and be aware. I hope we learn our lesson during the Ondoy times. Be safe everyone!

Plants Vs Zombies

Last night, out of nowhere I was in the mood to fight zombies again. Lol. I mean I just felt I wanted to play the popular game Plants vs. Zombies and see if I get lucky enough to reach farther. The farthest I got is 25 flags.  These were the strategies I use before:

strategy # 1

strategy # 2

Before I start playing, I take a deep breath. Prepare my mind for a serious battle, and make sure my son is sleeping soundly. So here goes.

I wanted a different approach this time. This is my plan: spikeweed in the first 3 rows. They’re my favorite plants (especially when they evolved to spikerock). They cannot be eaten and yet they wound the zombies. Except the gargantuar who can hit them. Then the magnet-shroom, they will lessen the defense of the bucket head, digger, screen door, and any zombies with metal. My line of offense: gatling pea, and to strengthen them, the torchwood. Of course I need the sunflower (me power the entire infantry). In the pool area, there’s gloom-shroom, cat tail, the pea shooter and torchwood, and the cob cannon.

So far so good....

Until my plants were almost wipe out because of the gargantuar. You bastards! Lol. That’s when I started giving up. (I forgot to take pictures of their attack ‘coz I was busy rescuing my plants) But I must say I’m proud of my pool defense. They are the last one standing. They didn’t hurt that much unlike in my lawn. Good thing gargantuar cannot swim! ;)

I give up!!!

That hungry football zombie was the one to finally enter my house.

The ending: the zombies ate my brain! Until d next time my mighty opponent! I would never give up fighting you. We’ll meet again. Bwahaha! :p

Drink Water on Empty Stomach

This has been circulating in Facebook recently. I don't know if its true but I felt guilty after reading this because I like to drink cold water after every meals. I will keep this helpful information in mind whenever I am tempted to drink cold water.

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:
Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.
METHOD OF TREATMENT
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
3.. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.
The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:
1. High Blood Pressure (30 days)
2. Gastric (10 days)
3. Diabetes (30 days)
4. Constipation (10 days)
5. Cancer (180 days)
6. TB (90 days)
7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards – daily..
This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.
It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life. Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.
This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

the concept of NO

Riley has 3 consistent tricks: the "show mama your teeth" where he opens his mouth to show me his teeth; the second is "kiss mama" where he pouts his lips and make a "brrrr" sound; and last is whenever I say NO, HUWAG (don't), or BAWAL (restricted), he would turn his head side by side repeatedly.

I didn't know that teaching a child the concept of NO is very important at an early stage. I just find it amusing at first that he recognize the word and have a connecting head movement with it but I didn't know I am already teaching him a valuable lesson. As he grows, he will learn more the meaning when someone say NO and the reason why some things cannot be done or said by him. I think that is the beginning of teaching him the concept of right and wrong as well. For now I find Riley adorable when he looks at me as if waiting if I will say No or allow him when he do things. Here are some tips to make a child be the best that he/she can be:

For children 1 to 3 years

1. Allow him to play freely and safely. Fence off a portion of your house, make sure it contains no hazards, and let your toddler explore freely.

2. Teach him the meaning of no,especially when explaining why he can't go beyond his designated play area.

3. Talk to him whenever you dress him, feed him, or when you take him out on an outing. Help him absorb words by talking to him casually; name the part of his body as you bathe him. Let him repeat them.

4. Continue reading to him regularly. Choose books with simple stories about other small children or animals.

5. Introduce the concept of writing as another form of language. Show him what his name looks like in print.

6. Teach him how to perform a necessary skill, say, washing his hands or buttoning his shirt.

7. Look for toys that introduce concepts like in and out; inside and on top; and larger and smaller. When he's ready, go for push-and-pull toys.

8. Play simple games like hide-and-seek to help him form concepts about the permanence of objects not immediately in his sight.

9. Take him on excursions: a short bus trip, a train ride, or a visit to a fire station, the beach, and neighborhood parks.

"Why Women Cry..."

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman," she told him.
"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."
Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.
The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry

Finally he put in a call to God When God got on the phone, he asked, "God, why do women cry so easily?"
God said:

"When I made the woman she had to be special.
I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.
I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that manytimes comes from her children.
I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.
I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.
I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.
I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.
And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."
"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

My Son As Peter Pan

My son and I we're invited to attend a birthday party. The description said "wear fairy costumes for children." At first I don't know what costume to make for Riley. I thought of a king where I can just make his crown. As I browse through the internet, I found this COOL and very helpful website: Make It and Love It. There is the step-by-step tutorial of how to make a Peter Pan costume. Very easy and that's just perfect because I looove Peter Pan. I remember I used to dress up as well as Tiger Lily on one Halloween party. ^_^. I'm happy when the end result came up.

Here is Riley after my mom read and follow the tutorial:

Thank You Lola for Riley's costume!

You'll find LOTS of tutorial for children's wear at that site. As for my mom, her next project would be to sew and make Riley a soldier uniform on the upcoming Halloween. I'm excited to witness that! Until then, this is Peter Pan flying off. :)

Teaching Made Easy

It's review time once again! My tutee, who is a Grade 3 student, will have their 2nd Summative Test this coming September 22-23.  He is really smart kid and last grading period, he was Top 4. It made me more inspired in teaching him because of this. My goal this grading period is to make him Top 3 or Top 2. :) I know it would take a lot of effort and time. But of course, it all depends to him if he really studied well. As early as today, I already reviewed him for his upcoming exams. Normally, I would borrow his books and make a sample quiz. But I found this very helpful site that let's me download sample worksheets and quizzes. It makes my teaching more easier and efficiently. Check this site for more sample quizzes you can give your students and pupils: http://www.superteacherworksheets.com

As for me, I'll do my best in preparing my student in his upcoming test. I hope he gets a better score so my tutee's parents will be happy as well! have a nice weekend everyone! Ciao!

it's good to be back!

I've been busy the past few months! Preparing and planning for a first birthday party is NOT an easy task. I'm glad that it is finally over and so I can focus and return to blogging. I know I've neglected you. I can't find new ideas to write. I guess that's the hardest part of being a writer. Sometimes, for whatever unknown reasons, you just can't put your thoughts into words. No matter how hard you try, it just wouldn't fit right. But now, I'm determined to blog as much as I could. I have a friend who is a testament that anyone can earn money through blogging. All I need is patience, the time to write and perseverance. Since I'm a full time mom now, I need to think of other possibilities of earning money. I have a tutorial job every afternoon but that is not enough. So this is suitable and very practical. Since Facebook is part of my everyday life, I can squeeze an hour or two of my time here in my blog to write articles. I hope ideas would start pouring in so my dreams would become a reality! Happy reading everyone!
