Les Misérables

Warning might contain spoiler.

I thought I should blog about this movie because I love it. And you know naman when I love something, I love to share it too!:) Its been weeks since I've watched it but I still think about it. Especially now that it invades my iPad playlist. (Lakas lang maka lss.) The cast are amazing. The story even more amazing. The production and the cinematography are outstanding. It's one of those films that touch me and warm my heart and makes me glad that I have watched it.

Its hard to choose a favorite part (dahil lahat maganda!) but I guess mine would be the one where Fantine (Anne Hathaway) sang I Dreamed a Dream. I cried the first time I've seen it. After finishing the whole movie, I watched that scene once again and I cried again. Fantine is a single mother. So yeah, I can relate, totally!

Which brings me, Anne Hathaway is one hell good actress. She deserved her Oscar award for her portrayal. Then I remember an issue between her and Ricky Lo. I Googled it  and I got disappointed. Ok, she's great in acting but nope I don't like how she handled that interview. But I'll just give her the benefit of the doubt.

This movie also makes me wish na sana maging theater singer si Riley. He watched with me kasi and I heard him humming. Sumasabay sa kanta. Hehe!

For me, this movie is all about the different kind of love. A mother's love (Fantine to Cosette). Love for country (the French Revolution boys). Love even if you're not related (Jean Valjean to Cosette). Romantic love (Cosette and Marius). Dedmang love (Eponine to Marius). So I'll leave you with my favorite line from the movie:

Productive Weekend

I've had a productive weekend. First, I've finished my first DIY project. It was a hooded panda towel for my son. I'll try to post a separate blog about it. I'm into sewing nowadays inspired by a lot of talented and innovative people at Pinterest! Pinterest is my new Facebook. I can just browse for hours and always find something worth pinning. You'll discover a lot from that website. If you have Pinterest, do follow me here. I have another project in mind that I hope to finish next week.

Another thing I've done this weekend is baking! A simple recipe I read in my friends blog. It's called Banana and Nutella Muffins. Check her blog here for ingredients and instructions. Based from the reaction of my expert taster, it's delicious!

I've cleaned up a bit too and organize some things in the house. I think I'm subconsciously preparing the house for my mother's arrival. Every week, I'm cleaning something. First the kitchen, then the bathroom, last week the garden. Next will be the bedroom. I'm throwing or recycling things that clutter. I want her to see that I am a responsible daughter. That I can keep our home tidy and running even if she's not around. But I desperately wish she would be around soon. I miss her. The first couple of months she's away, I'm still ok. But come the third, the fourth month until now, I am dying of waiting for her. I've been homesick without her and I am counting the days until I can hug her again.

Oh, I've watched Les Miserables too! Such beautiful story! Inspirational. I should read more classic stories. But the language sometimes bored me to sleep. Teehee.

I've accomplished a lot of things today and I am able to blog all about it! I should do this every weekend (or everyday!)

How did you spend your weekends? Productive or so-so?

Movie Marathon

Last week, Holyweek, we just stayed home and rented and watched movies. We didn't plan anything since my mother is not here and our father recently undergo operation. It was a relaxing time and I learn a thing or two from those movies. Here's my thought about some of them:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

The mind may forget but the heart will always remember. I couldn't agree more. I like this movie. And I like the name Clementine.

Definitely, Maybe

Sometimes, we think it's over. But nothing is over until you say its over. Sometimes, the timing is not right but everything happens for a reason. If you really love someone, just say it! Because if you don't, you'll live a sad life like Will in the movie.

The Lorax

My son likes this movie! Maybe because this is the only cartoon movie that we rented. I like the song numbers and the message: Plant trees or don't cut trees!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

This is a long movie and I watched it alone. Which is a good thing because I didn't know it contains sensitive scene. The scene or the words that marked the most to me was by the villain. Something about trusting our instincts. Sometimes we sense something is wrong and yet we continue our course of action. The villain also said that fear of a offending someone is stronger than the fear of pain. To me, it ring truth.

The Smurfs
As you know, smurfs name themselves after their personality. If I am a smurf, I think people will give me the name SHY.  But the truth is I am not shy. I am just not talkative and sociable. I just like being left alone. But to someone I am comfortable with, shy is the least I can be. So I guess, they can name me "WAIT-UNTIL-YOU-GET-TO-KNOW-ME" smurf! Am I smurf or not?! lol

Snow White and the Huntsman

What is beauty if you're a bitch! Do I need to elaborate on this?

Gulliver's Travels
There are no small jobs, just small people (like me!) To some you may be small but to others, you might be big. I laugh hard with this movie as Jack Black can always do to me.

So many good movies out there to watch! Next time, we'll do Tagalog movie marathon. :)

The Bourne Legacy

The buzz about shooting 40% of this movie in the Philippines is enough to entice the whole Filipino nations including yours truly. The Bourne Legacy is a spin-off from the Bourne movies - The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I've never watch any of those so I downloaded them last Friday and over the weekend I got to watched them. And I must say I am impress! I like the story, the action scenes, and I think I fall in love with Matt Damon who plays the role of "Jason Bourne" after watching it! Good Brilliant actor and I want  to marry him. LOL. Jason Bourne was a CIA assassin. They were trained to kill. I love the whole espionage, the chasing, how he escapes from the villains, and the twist and turn of the story. I prefer movies with mystery and secrecy involve especially when it includes government agencies like CIA, NSA, FBI and national security. This film is based on the novel written by Robert Ludlum. Now, how does The Bourne Legacy fit in the story?

The Bourne Legacy is a completely original screenplay. A story about another CIA agent Aaron Cross (who was portrayed by Jeremy Renner). No Matt Damon for me in this movie, huhu. As I read it, the premise of the film seems to be that the bad guys want to wipe out all the genetically modified killers that could lead to Jason Bourne-type disasters. This forces Aaron Cross to run for it and I guess that leads to the scenes shot in Manila. The movie will be shown on August 3 and I hope I can watch it in the cinema (or I can wait for a few weeks and download it). Here's the trailer and the jeepney chase is one scene I am excited for:

A Mother's Story

Last night I saw the trailer of A Mother's Story, a film by Star Cinema and starred by the comedienne Pokwang. As soon as it caught my attention, my eyes started to warm up. We all have mothers. I am a mother myself. And a story about a mother's sacrifices is just tear jerking! Mother's will do everything and anything for the sake of their children. Even at the cost of working abroad and leaving their beloved children. The worst part is, some people don't understand it and judged them to be a bad mother.

It is showing on January 8, and I badly want to watch it together with my mom! My mother sacrifices everything for us. She works hard every day and until now that I have my son, her love and support is undeniable. My siblings and I love her so much! And I want to treat her because it's her birthday on the 17th :) The problem is who will take care of my son. And if I can bear to leave him with someone other than my mother (she's the only one I trust with regards to Riley). If only he is tame enough to bring in the cinema house (oh yeah tame is the word!) but it wouldn't be a good idea at all.

Well, lets see what happens. But I definitely think that this movie is worth watching for. Just watch the trailer you'll agree. *Sniff

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Synopsis:

On the day that Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans, elderly Daisy Williams (nee Fuller) is on her deathbed in a New Orleans hospital. At her side is her adult daughter, Caroline. Daisy asks Caroline to read to her aloud the diary of Daisy's lifelong friend, Benjamin Button. Benjamin's diary recounts his entire extraordinary life, the primary unusual aspect of which was his aging backwards, being diagnosed with several aging diseases at birth and thus given little chance of survival, but who does survive and gets younger with time. Abandoned by his biological father, Thomas Button, after Benjamin's biological mother died in childbirth, Benjamin was raised by Queenie, a black woman and caregiver at a seniors home. Daisy's grandmother was a resident at that home, which is where she first met Benjamin. Although separated through the years, Daisy and Benjamin remain in contact throughout their lives...

My Rating:

Not only it has an interesting story, it also has a lesson to be learned! If I were in Benjamin Button’s position, I don’t know how I will respond to life. But Benjamin makes the best of what God has given him. May it be a child in an old man’s body or an old man trapped in a young man’s body. I cried on the part when he saw his child again after so many years of being away from her. I’ll leave you now, with my favorite lines from this movie.

Benjamin Button: For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

Benjamin ButtonYou can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went. You could swear, curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.

Benjamin ButtonOur lives are defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss.

Mrs. MapleBenjamin, we're meant to lose the people we love. How else would we know how important they are to us?

DaisyAnd in the spring, 2003, he looked at me. And I knew, that he knew, who I was. And then he closed his eyes, as if to go to sleep.

Benjamin Button: It's funny how sometimes the people we remember the least make the greatest impression on us.

my sister's keeper

SYNOPSIS

Conceived by means of in vitro fertilization, Anna Fitzgerald (Abigail Breslin) was brought into the world to be a genetic match for her older sister, Kate (Sofia Vassilieva), who suffers from acute promyelocytic leukemia. Because of her sister's dependency on her, Anna is unable to live the life she wants; in and out of the hospital constantly, she cannot take part in extracurricular activities such as cheerleading or soccer. When Kate turns 13 she goes into renal failure. Knowing that she will have to donate one of her kidneys to her sister, Anna sues her parents for medical emancipation and the rights to her own body. Attorney Campbell Alexander (Alec Baldwin) agrees to work for Anna pro bono. The film is interlaced with flashbacks that detail the strong relationship between Kate and Anna, as well as how Kate's illness has affected her siblings' lives. Before the result of the case is known, it is revealed that Kate had asked Anna to file for medical emancipation. Believing that she would not survive the surgery, Kate wants to die. Anna wins the case, and due to her sister's wishes does not donate her kidney. Kate later dies at the hospital. The family moves on with their lives, being changed by Kate's death, but every year on Kate's birthday they go to Montana, which was her favorite place in the world.

MY VIEW ON THIS MOVIE:

I can really relate to Sara (Cameron Diaz). I know how tough it is to accept that your child can and will die. A mother would do EVERYTHING for the sake of her child.  Even if sometimes, you go way too far. And a mother would never give up no matter what.  She loves all her children but Kate (Sofia Vassilieva) needs her attention more. But as the story goes, there is no shame in dying. Its just part of life. It is inevitable.

I really cried at the part where Sara and Kate we're alone in the hospital. Then Kate said "Remember that summer when I went away to camp? And I was so scared that’d miss you guys. Before I got on the bus...you told me to take a seat on the left side right next to the window so I'd be able to look back and see you there. I get the same seat now. It's gonna be okay." It’s just hard to lose someone especially if it is your own child or your own sister. It's just hard to accept. But life goes on..

I recommend this movie for everyone. It will bring you to tears. Makes you appreciate your family despite problems. Until my next movie review....
